Andrea Obeyesekere
Andrea is the General Manager of Community Engagement & Support at Centacare FNQ, bringing over 20 years of experience in the Human and Social Services sector, including eight years based in Far North Queensland.
Raised locally, Andrea is deeply committed to place-based practice and culturally informed service delivery. She is passionate about working with diverse communities, particularly those from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds, with a focus on settlement, social cohesion, and community empowerment.
Andrea believes in grassroots leadership and strengths-based practice. She works alongside communities in true partnership to co-create solutions that reflect their lived realities and amplify their voices within the systems that serve them.
Andrea says, “For me, true impact begins with walking in genuine solidarity and allowing communities to guide the way.” Her approach emphasises slowing down, listening deeply, and recognising the resilience and knowledge present in every community.
