Bernard Sabadi
Bernard is a Badu Islander Torres Strait Islander man from the Nona family, with descendants from Saibai and Murray Island.
He is the Founder and Coordinator of Kunjur First Nations Men’s Collective, which he established after the heartbreaking loss of another strong man to suicide. Kunjur is being built as a lasting place for First Nations men to come together as the leaders, providers, and protectors they have been for thousands of years.
Bernard believes there is no strength in “keeping it bottled up.” He offers helpful conversations in places where men can safely talk together and listen to one another, often in the form of yarning circles.
Through this work, Bernard is helping restore connection, resilience, and cultural strength within his community.
