Life Promotion and Suicide Prevention FNQ - June 2026
Across Far North Queensland, we continue to see strong collaboration and growing momentum in suicide prevention, with opportunities to connect, learn, and share across our communities.
National Conference
In April, we were delighted to co-present with the National Suicide Prevention Office at the Suicide Prevention Conference in Sydney.
As the backbone organisation for the Life Promotion and Suicide Prevention Collaborative FNQ, we shared our work supporting local understanding and implementation of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy, and the importance of connecting people to the vision so they can see their role in driving change.
Five by Five Event
More than 25 collaborative members joined us at the Cairns Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre for our recent Five by Five event.
The session included:
Reflections from the Lived Experience Focus Group, hosted by Roses in the Ocean
A presentation on the Distress Brief Support initiative in the Tablelands
Open discussion and shared reflections from participants
An overview of future focus areas for the Collaborative in partnership with NQPHN
Local Leadership Conversation
We were pleased to host an informal conversation with Queensland Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic during his visit to Cairns.
The discussion focused on the outcomes and impact of Shifting Minds: The Queensland Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Suicide Prevention Strategic Plan 2023–2028, and reflections on how it is shaping system reform, collective action, and suicide prevention efforts across Queensland.
